Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) Webinars highlight free software that can help make the most of your farm’s manure
With fertilizer prices sky high and supply chain delays causing problems, many farms have a solution at their fingertips that could help offset some of that pain - livestock manure.
A free software package called AgriSuite from OMAFRA is available to help farmers - and the crop consultants working with them - figure out how to make the best possible use of livestock nutrients on their soil and on their crops.
AgriSuite includes five easy-to-use calculators that can be used independently or in tandem to obtain simple estimates to support nutrient management decisions. Topics include field management, organic amendments, phosphorous loss, fertilizer, and crop nutrients. The popular nutrient management (NMAN) and Manure Storage Sizing (MSTOR) programs are also part of the software package.
A series of practical online workshops on determining the value of different types of manure using AgriSuite will take place February 1, 2 and 3, hosted by Timing Matters: Peer to Peer and Ontario Professional Agri-Contractors Association.
Each session will feature Christine Brown, OMAFRA Field Crop Sustainability Specialist, who will highlight how to use AgriSuite to do nutrient calculations, along with farmers, agri-contractors and agronomists who will share how to put that information to use on the farm.
February 1: Liquid Hog Manure; Digestate
February 2: Liquid dairy manure; Solid beef, sheep and veal manure
February 3: Solid poultry manure
